BM is listing that Pocket Cinema Camera 6K13 has dynamic range stops. It has the same dual native ISO of 400 and 3200 as the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. When the ISO setting is between 100 and 1000, native ISO of 400 is used as a reference point. The ISO range between 1,250 and 25,600 uses the native ISO of 3,200 as a reference. If you are shooting in situations where you have a choice between ISO 1,1 or 1,250, BM recommends making a stop in your lens iris so that you can select ISO 1,250 as it will add higher native ISO and provide more cleaner results.

Despite both cameras the same claimed dynamic range, where the dynamic range stops are assigned is not the same. Based on these statistics provided by BM, the 6K version should have somewhat better highlight handling than 4K.

HDMI & microphone Connectivity

It has a set of connections similar to the BMPCC4K. The camera also includes a full-size HDMI connector for monitoring with HDR and Clear 10 monitoring bit output support. There is a mini XLR connection with 48-volt Phantom Power for connecting professional microphones, a 3.5mm video camera style microphone input, headphone connection and a professional locking DC power connector. Lens

The new camera uses all the accessories like the Pocket 4K, which makes it a bit easier to change as well. The front of the camera or the lens mount itself is large enough to accommodate a larger S35 sensor and the use of a native EF lens, but the body itself looks identical. It's great for existing owners to use Pocket 6K with the cages you already have.

The biggest difference, apart from the size of the sensor, is the addition of the Canon EF mount. The rationale for going with the EF is to adjust the camera to the world's largest range and most popular lens. If you already use EF lenses on DSLR, URSA Mini Pro or even the original Blackmagic movie camera, you should not spend any money.

If you own a BMPCC4K and have invested in MFT Glass, you may not be particularly happy that BM has now chosen to go with an EF mount, especially if you are considering upgrading.

It gives you a good choice of glass but mounts many others using the adapter. For example, the MFT lens mount on a 4K model can be adapted with a PL, C, EF or other lens. With EF you are stuck.

Having said all that, I personally like the idea of the S35 sensor with EF mount as my choice of MFT.

 Auto Focus

As far as auto focus is concerned. All BM says: When using an auto focus lens that is compatible with your camera, press the "Focus" button once for automatic focus. By default the lens will focus automatically on the center of the image, but you can select the optional Auto Focus Point by tapping on the LCD screen of the area you want to focus on. Double press OT Note to reset the focus point to the center of the screen It is important to know that most lenses support electronic focus, some lenses can be set in manual or auto focus mode. In this case you need to make sure your lens is set to Auto Focus mode.
There is no mention of continuous auto focus, and it may well be that the camera can automatically focus on just one touch. If you are expecting the level of auto focus with Canon's DPF, you will be disappointed.

Image Stabilization

pocket-cinema-camera-6k
image
There is an 'Image Stabilization' option to enable or disable image stabilization on the lens without the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K physical switch. Given the 6 has an EF mount, we assume that Canon IS will be supported, but this could not be confirmed.

Battery

pocket-cinema-camera-6k
image
The new Pocket Cinema 6 uses the same LP-E6 battery. BMD has stated that the new Pocket 6K will have a runtime of about 45 minutes (recording 6K RAW at 24 fps at Sifest 2.0 at 50% with screen brightness).

No LCD monitor updated. This is the same LCD that you will find in the BMPCC4K.

BM certainly offers users many options when it comes to the resolution and frame rates you want to shoot.

Resolution

pocket-cinema-camera-6k

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can shoot at all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K or even 6K. The camera will shoot at 6144 x 3456 16: 9 or 60 fps at 6144 x 2560 2.4: 1 and 60 fps at 5744 x 3024 17: 9 at 50 fps. You can window the sensor for higher frame rates and shoot up to 120 fps at 2.0K 26648 x 1512 17: 9. You can work in true anamorphic 6: 5, even using anamorphic lenses at 36K x 3020 at 3.7K 60 fps.

pocket-cinema-camera-6k

Pocket Cinema Camera 6 can be applied to an LCD touchscreen and HDMI output to anamorphic D-Squeeze. When you record in 3.7K 6: 5 anamorphic format it automatically applies '2x anamorphic de-squeeze' and in 16: 9 format you can enable '1.33x anamorphic de-squeeze'.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera uses 6K Pro for Blackmagic RAW and scaled formats for full sensor and Windows sensor formats. You can only shoot Blackmagic RAWs at 6K, 6K (2.4: 1), 5.7K 16: 9, 3.7K anamorphic and 2.8K at 17: 9. If you want to shoot in 4K DCI, UHD, or HD, you can only do up to 422 HQ in ProRes taste.

pocket-cinema-camera-6k
image

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6 is the highest sensor frame rate (The table above contains the codecs, resolutions, and maximum sensor frame rates available for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K)

The image is scaling to 2.7K when shooting in HD at 120fps, while at 60fps it is scaling to 5.7K. The fastest frame rate available for Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is when scaled to 2.8K 17: 9 windows and HD 2.7K windows.

Unless the sensor grain is shooting at different resolutions and frame rates, it is 1.558x at 6k, 1.6kx at 6k 2.4: 1, 1.692x at 5.7k. Crop factor when shooting 2.8K and HD at 120fps at 3.388x.

Fixed photo and Timecode

You can also shoot fixed photos at 21.2 megapixels

Pocket Cinema Camera 6K also has a timecode feature that allows the camera to be jammed with a timecode using 3.5mm audio input from a device like Tentel Sync to use the new multicam features in Denty Resolve 16.1. The camera will automatically detect the signal and set the timecode. The timecode is not as accurate as the URSA Mini Pro and will flow over time, but the feature is very handy if you need timecode sync.

Media

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera has a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to CIF and SD UHS-II card recorders and to an external media disk. While you can use a regular SD card for HD or higher performance, you can use native 4K or 6K Sifast cards when using UHS-II and Blackmagic RA. You can capture up to 6 hours of full resolution 6K element on a single 256GB SD UHS card II card. ProRes and Blackmagic RAW files work with all video software. You can even mount media cards on your computer and start editing them directly using the included Dvinci Relive Studio software.

Built-in Loots

Each camera offers LUTs that are specific to the sensor. The built-in spoils for the BMPCC 4K are not exactly the same as those found in the 6K version.

Take away

Hopefully, it won't get heated. The URSA Mini 4.6K camera makes it a good B-cam by sharing Pocket 6 with the same Blackmagic Generation 4 color science as owners will likely want to use it with their new timecode jamming feature, especially.

In addition to autofocus, the ergonomics + EVF + built into ND's / inputs (which is the big thing).
It has more frame rate options, more codecs / bit depth of internal recording, more resolution, similar dynamic range / ISO / sensor, lower body weight + resolution

The BMD mentioned in the grant regarding the Pocket 4K delivery is working hard to fulfill the order. I mentioned that Pocket 6 is expected to be on B&H on August 12, and I expect a lot of orders to be made today. If BMD can get production ready and ready for a new camera, it would be good because people do not like to wait a few months to get their camera.

All in all it seems to be an interesting release especially with the larger S35 sensor and electronic EF mount. I'm curious to try it out.
